After much anticipation, SQS Digital Labs is proud to announce the 2018 “SQS Tech Team Cycle Challenge” in aid of NSPCC Northern Ireland. This event follows on from the highly successful cycle challenges held in 2016 and 2017 which saw over 20 mighty teams from the thriving software and technology sector in Northern Ireland taking on a gruelling 80km cycle.
This year we have joined forces with Titanic Cycle Club and are opening the event up to other Northern Ireland Cycle club participation. As well as having corporate teams entering the event, we will have club teams that will be subject to a reduced entre fee and team fundraising target.
We are thrilled to inform you that John Madden will again be returning as the Event Ambassador for our 2018 event. John is a record breaking Irish cycling champion and highly influential advocate of the sport. Find out more about his inspiring achievements here: Event Champions
The event will take place on Saturday 12th May 2018, 10am start. This year there is the option of taking on either the 80km or a new 40km route. Both event routes start in Ballygally where riders can fly up the scenic coastal stretch, passing through the villages of Glenarm and Broughshane - while incorporating some challenging climbs and testing sprints.
This year again we will be supported by ChampionChip Ireland. We will have a timed section for ‘fastest club team’ and ‘fastest club individual’ and separately for ‘fastest corporate team’ and ‘fastest corporate individual’, with fantastic prizes for all the winners. These will be awarded right after the event as we all enjoy some hot food and refreshments.
For Tech companies, each team of five cyclists has been challenged to raise £1,750 - of which £750 will be raised by the cyclists (just £150 each) and the remaining £1,000 can come from their company’s CSR/charity budget. Smaller companies with 20 staff or less can take part with a lower entry fee of £1,250 per team.
For NI Cycle Clubs, each club team of five cyclists has been challenged to raise £700 – of which £500 will be raised by the cyclists (just £100 each) and the remaining £200 can come from their club budget. Note that there is just one entry fee structure regardless of club size.
These funds will help support the NSPCC’s vital services across Northern Ireland which includes the NSPCC Childline helpline operations in Belfast & Foyle, the therapeutic work for those who have experienced abuse, and the NSPCC ‘Speak Out Stay Safe’ programme which is aiming to reach every local primary school.
This year’s event is gearing up to be another huge success, building on the strong foundations of the previous years events. Its great to have the might of Titanic Cycle Club behind this year’s event and we look forward to other NI Club cyclists coming onboard. Note this year, we can only accept club team entries, not individuals.
